Why I built Scuba Sync

Hey, I’m Jordy, the creator of Scuba Sync.

I’ve travelled to over 35 countries, and my dream is to explore the whole world. Both above and below the surface. Since becoming a diver while travelling, I’ve explored the underwater world in more than 20 of them.

Along the way, I’ve met incredible people from all over the world and all walks of life, connected by a shared love of the water and scuba diving. Some have become colleagues, neighbours, lifelong friends, and even family. What started as a shared dive turned into connections that reached far beyond the water.

But finding people to share those experiences with wasn’t always easy. As a solo traveller, I wanted to explore reefs off the beaten path, yet I often struggled to find a dive buddy to join me.

Back home, I faced a similar challenge: none of the people close to me were divers. Eventually, I found an amazing dive group, but joining them meant a long drive every time I wanted to get in the water. I wished there were an easier way to connect with divers nearby.

I went on to become a Divemaster and dive instructor, and throughout my career, I’ve heard the same frustrations over and over: “I don’t have a dive buddy.” “I don’t know where to dive near me.” “I can’t find a local dive shop.” I realised that the challenges I’d experienced were shared by so many other divers.

That’s why I created Scuba Sync: to help solo travellers and fellow dive enthusiasts connect with dive buddies, discover dive sites, and find dive shops wherever they are. But beyond helping people plan their next dive, I want to help them experience the friendships and sense of belonging that diving has brought into my life.
